{our creative space..} papier-mache fairy mask..

It's the school holidays here in South Australia so I've been trying to keep the little princess busy while at home for the extra couple of days. Yesterday she was booked in to do fairy crafts with her little buddy but unfortunately the class was cancelled.. so mumma had to have a little sneak peak into spotlight to see what she could come up with.

One item that we've purchased a couple of times now is a little fairy mask so she can dress up like Harmony or Rhapsody.. and each time they fall apart within a couple of wears.. that dancing gig is quite taxing on the masks by the looks of it. So needless to say, when I stumbled upon a papier-mache mask that was nice and sturdy and just waiting to be glitzed up and decorated, I grabbed one for her and one for her little buddy and figured they could still do a little bit of fairy craft while at home.

It really was a simple project and although tired, they both seemed to rush through it and tackled it with ease. The girls painted the mask first and we sprinkled glitter all over it while the paint was still wet. Once dry I punched a couple of holes on the sides, thread through some thin elastic and Ella added a few more sparkles to it. The total cost of the project was less than $5 as we used paint and glitter we already had at home.

{let's do 52} week 12.. handwritten + blur

Ok.. this week's theme is quite simple. Ella has learnt how to write her name and is literally writing it everywhere.. I just love watching how the shape of each letter changes as she perfects it.

This is just a quick iPhone snap of one of her scribbles.. I've added a texture and framed it with Paint the Moon's frame.

this week has been bought to you by the letter {P}..

My little Princess turned four on Tuesday and we celebrated her birthday with a trip to the zoo. Her favourite animal (and of course merchandise that came home with us) was a little Panda called Funi, dressed in none other than pink. The day after we did the annual trip to the podiatrist and sadly to say.. my little princess ain't going to be wearing thongs or little beauties like the ones above for much longer.. yup.. she's got her daddy's feet and has to have orthodics..

I spent the morning painting t-shirts with Ella's class today, just for something a little different, to celebrate her birthday than the party bag for each kid to take home sort of deal. I had a ball, got covered in paint and the kids were quite simply hilarious and adorable all at the same time.

Then off to the podiatrist for me.. yup yup.. mumma can't ignore that excruciating pain in her foot no more.. and the winner is "a torn ligament", yippee for me!! I now get to have a foot/ankle nicely taped up, get to wear a wedge in my shoe and have to wear closed in shoes from the moment I wake up to when I go to sleep for 12 weeks. Fun! NOT! On a good note.. at least the weather is cooling down.

I finished the day off with making 24 party bags for the little princesses party on the weekend and stewed some cinnamon pears.

On that note.. goodnight!!

I completely missed {kiddy art..} last week.. my sincere apologies.. We had another big week of ticking off things off that to-do list which after this weekend I must say is looking much more achievable..

Totally and utterly loving Ella's drawings at the moment.. from top left..

The kiddo's have been into the blackboard wall lately.. a lovely relief from cleaning up paint continuously.. and some amazing artwork has been created.. it's just a matter of getting a photo quickly enough before the duster or cloth comes out..

We've also started on some christmas decorations that need to be photographed.. stay tuned..

What have your kiddo's been up to in the art department this week?? Do you have any great ideas for Christmas crafts??

Join in with your kids artwork.. links to kids art ideas or anything creative thats happening in your kids world..

The sparkly paints, fairy stickers, popsicle sticks and sequens came out this week.. Ella is gearing up for her fairy dancing which starts this week so its been a girly sort of week.. she danced to the fairies, dressed up like a fairy and the art was very much reflected her excitement for all things fairy..

Keeping on the art supply stash theme.. here is another little find.. a set of scissors (kid safe supposedly) they cut little wiggles, zigzags etc.. I got these from Ella's kindy fundraiser catalogue for under $10 for the set.. bargain. She just loooves them but my magazine stash is shivering. I think we will be making our own gift tags for christmas with these little guys.. The possibilities are endless..

Its the school holidays here in SA.. and I'm sure your art supply stashes are being raided by the kids.. what's cool in your stash?? what have your kiddies been up to these holidays??

It's been another big week here and we only got a couple good sessions of art in but they were still a heap of fun. We spent a lot of our time outside soaking up the sun that peeked through a few times..

As I mentioned before.. most of our painting sessions end up with hand prints.. and I love handprints.. so this week I dedicate this to my little hands which I love so very much..

I am heading into hospital with my little man this week so I'm posting a couple of my regular posts a little earlier than normal, including {kiddy art..} but thinking about it, I think Sunday is a better time to start the week off for the section.. so feel free to share some of your kids masterpieces or art products your kids love here at kiddy art.. the linky is open till midnight Saturday night..

We did some girly things with Ella on mummy and Ella day this week.. we played with these little plastic tubes from ikea she got for her birthday a little while ago. They've been on the to do list for over 6 months, but with a toddler running around the house most days it just never seemed like the right time as they are far too much of a choking hazard.

We finally got into them last week and they were everywhere... the idea is to make patterns and shapes you like then melt them together with a hot iron.. It was such great fun.. I think this will become a regular activity when my little guy is not around..

wordless wednesday..

ok... this little face painting session started about midday as i was outside hanging out the washing.. it's so wordless wednesday as i don't really know what to say.. i'm still laughing!!

ella just wanted to paint her babies faces like hers was at bunnings on fathers day..

pop past faith, hope and a whole lotta love for some more wordless wednesday pics..
ps.. paint washes off dolls faces pretty easily

{kiddy art..} a daily dose of paint..

ella's masterpiece..
zaccy's masterpiece..

I can say with certainty that both my kids have inherited my husbands and my creative side.. I know that most kids love to paint.. if only just to get messy.. but they do.

In our household however, I seriously need to keep the paint, paint brushes and anything that may generate the thought of painting out of sight, otherwise we would be painting night and day. We do paint a lot nevertheless and I just love the little artworks that my monkeys create. We now have four spots where we hang artworks around the house, as the fridge just didn't cut it.. They still get full very quickly and although I hate putting any of their art in the rubbish, I simply have to or we'd need to put an addition on the house just for art storage.

Before anything hits the bin, I take a photo of it, date it and save it in a little folder dedicated to just artwork. Most photo places now have the service of turning photographs into photo books, so the plan is that every few years I will make up one of these books of each of the kids artworks for them to have when they grow up.

I would love to create a little spot on the web where mums/dads can share their kids art..
so here goes.. my first attempt at a linky on my blog..

I'm running a little behind this week but generally I'd like to start the availability of links each Monday morning and finish on a Sunday evening..

tee painting with toddlers..

Last Monday I had the pleasure of making t-shirts with my daughters friends at day care.. I bought along a selection of my screen printing paint which the kids used.. I then took the tee's home and heat set them to make the paint permanent..

Today the kids had a class photo wearing their tee's so I can now reveal to the world their amazing work.. it was such a fun day and the tee’s look absolutely stunning. Each one is a unique piece of wearable art...

Thank you guys for this opportunity and I hope you all love your little creations and enjoy wearing them. They are all truly fantastic and you are all little artists!!!

Here are some pics from the day..

here comes easter..

So.. as an older sibling you kinda get the short end of the stick sometimes.. I wouldn't know from first hand experience as the youngest of two, but it sort of seems that way when I look at lil Lell. Easter is just around the corner so why not get the food colouring out and sneak in some easter egg painting I think to myself.. and then shortly after that... laugh at myself... as I look at my very very red hands..

Lil Lell had a ball though.. after almost exploding from trying to blow the guts out of the eggs.. she made a gorgeous little set... love you Lell..
